Way

I'd led so many men into war

Not incapable of fighting on their own

But encouraged by a hand that guide them

A mind that planned for them

A voice that herded them

Every time my turn came to die

They would die instead

I'd tell them

Hold this post

Shoot that man

Destroy a building

And they'd say

Yes sir

Aye sir

Hurrah sir

I knew that without me

They weren't

And without them

I wasn't

So I led them to battle

And they led me home

I'd led so many men into war

When a corner came

I was against the wall

Waiting on them to rescue me

This fight was beyond the idea of combat

This fight was brutal and unfair

This fight was with me

Within myself

I wet the bed before I woke up

I plead the nurse a hand

She didn't say

Yes sir

Aye sir

Or

Hurrah sir

She forced a smile

She forced her actions

And she forced her sympathy

For she knew this warrior had fallen

I'd led so many men into war

As nature's vines tightened around my neck

I could not see my men

I could not breathe a sigh

I closed my eyes and I said goodbye.
